My son is little fast hi hi hi hi hi hi me where does he really go at I'm to get and get help from you from now that's what I'm talking about hi I'm rob I'm 1 of gastroenterologists nice to meet you how are you well I'm too nervous oh I'm sorry you've not 1 had of these before so this is the only orifice I'm not in a bloody tube I mean I'm gonna stone you I I read about that yeah wrong you know to knock isn't it selfish I might as complete the set exactly yeah noses and ears you've had done no there go so you've kept some yeah you'll be happy to hear just the mouth and neck and I understand you've had trouble in swallowing is that right yes tell me all about it it's called dys dysphagia I know what it yep mhmm so I've I've had it for a while I never really thought I needed to help it yet how long is it a while months months mean 6 months it's difficult because with everything else that's been bothering my body it's kind of I've tended to ignore stuff other than focus on getting rid of the cancer of course done a long term not so yes I am conscious I've had it I couldn't tell you exactly how but what made me research with my gp gp was I had a really bad bit where I was choking and couldn't breathe but I hadn't eaten I'd just taken a gulp of water and thought that shouldn't be doing this mhmm to the. Where my wife came running in I couldn't talk to tell her I'd drunk something she was getting ready to do the hydrate maneuver on me I was almost disappointed I didn't need her because she wanted to put something in the back but that's another story so yeah I went and know saw the gp and then I noticed you know it's just that's because the thing that struck me was which obviously is concerning we do lots of these I would say that everyone on my list today is too equated so that we haven't found anything worrying yet so the vast vast vast majority of the time it's all quite reassuring and what you tell me sounds quite reassuring so you coughed and spluttered after drinking the water yes went down the wrong way I'm assuming yes and you couldn't speak and then what happened I eventually got my breath back mean this lasted for maybe 20 or 30 seconds which you know this wasn't like where I got a piece of bread stuck in my throat and I forced it down with water do you get that as well yes all right tell me about that just you know sometimes like here I feel like even with small amounts of food it feels like it's not going down and it wants to stick and you feel it stuck there yes and you said with bread I I know for example yeah anything anything yeah and how often will it happen it's intermittent I mean I don't keep a log it doesn't doesn't happen every day not every day but it might happen a couple of times a week okay mhmm and losing any weight no I'm actually putting weight on brilliant because I lost 20 kilos with my cancer treatment mhmm and cancer treatment you've had you've had an operation have you had some systemic anti cancer treatment as well haven't you some chemo did you have chemotherapy yeah but we didn't finish it okay because for 2 reasons 1 I got an infection and the infection was that bad that my oncologist I got a third of the way through the course of chemo and the infection did 2 things to me 1 is it started 1 I was in danger of getting sepsis because of the infection the second is I had a form of polio when I was a kid it reactivated it to me I'd never thought of it I know we've eradicated covid but I wasn't aware that you don't get rid of the virus it just lives in your body unfortunately yeah you've had it so you know from a cancer perspective the oncology stoma team those sites it was brilliant good the infection kept me in hospital for somewhere like 6 7 8 weeks and I had so many bloody oh ticks no procedures alright to get rid of the gunk that my body was producing and I I just thought it bizarre that I was in hospital for maybe related and I was in a hospital mhmm yeah and I I'm I'm 60 I'm a cantankerous old kid okay because I said you you might be great doctors and when they come and see you they come and see you privately they have bad they pull the curtains around and you think why you're not stripping me you're talking and everyone can hear everyone else's conversation and I said I actually swore I said for the fuck's sake next time you want to stick a tube up my bum and cure it okay so that it doesn't fall out at least have the decency to bloody shave me before you stick it because when you try and peel it off oh that sounds awful to the hairs awful oh I'm sorry don't do that they shave it anyway self surrender you'd pay a lot of money for that didn't you well done fine and we were gonna have a look at judd's eye camera if that's okay it'll take about 10 minutes it's very quick it's very safe I should tell you about 2 problems in the chest and 2 main risks of the chest alright yeah so it's the procedure's called an upper gi endoscopy the benefits are diagnosis of the cause of your gastrointestinal symptoms the main risks so perforation making a hole in the wrong place or tear is a serious risk of this test if that were to happen might just stay in hospital you'd have an operation to fix that it is a serious risk but incredibly rare the other main serious risk is a bleeding so sometimes they deliberately accidentally make something bleed with our camera the good thing about that is we can usually fix it with our camera those 2 risks together will happen in 1 in 9000 diagnostic gastroscopy so it's incredibly uncommon alright but there are serious risks in terms of problems with the test the consultant is not the way we want to get to so it's a a failure and if that happens can talk about what we might do as an alternative test there may be a problem with the tolerability of the test or the seas of station which reduces the risk of using authority to be tested if is possible we can talk about alternative tests or repeat tests or anything like that the other risk is of missing something so a missed lesion there are lots of folds in the gastrointestinal tract we can put it at sacrum that may be difficult to suck up in the stomach does that make sense lots of sedation please lots of sedation sounds good I like that are you happy any questions about the test no how would you keep me I'm just trying to figure out in terms of logistics yeah and get my wife to come in of course it depends on how quickly you awake from the sedation like I say give you the sedation we'll do a couple of minutes to work once you're sleepy we'll start at first takes 10 minutes then we'll get you out to our recovery area you'll wake up before then but you probably won't remember anything after I give you the station in the room you'll wake up in recovery and then you can be in recovery sometimes people are in probably for an hour sometimes people are recovery for about half an hour yeah and then you'll get it okay yeah does that kind of make sense yeah it very much depends on how much station you're taking from before you recover inside on funny thing is I got you want me to start if you want to just have them tested then just sign it with all the can you go no it's fine normally because whenever were they hit they hit me general I was thinking and I became addicted I was loved loved going to sleep and waking up to sleep yeah and the other thing is you sleep so badly mister they so nervous I mean sleep must be quite nice apparently I woke up in car and every time I woke up I would take it when I went down the car and nothing wouldn't let me go down the car that sounds very upsetting is fair I was trying to bribe 1 of the nurses together we bought a little 1 I know but I you know let's see what I'll let's see what happened I'm gonna get it maybe I might leave it off my bike this is good it'll it'll come with you but I'm happy to help you if you'd like it too I'm take your coke you can let me put 1 in the bag if you like so you got it please yeah okay slot apart just got it here no no no steps you can empty here or on the flat you tell me they're good so I'm back I'll put camera in first and evening brilliant thank you are you ready I'm so ready sorry young man would you just post all your full name and date of birth ma'am russell's either now it's done in the back okay so then it explains you what it's gonna leave that 1 for later yeah well they just that for a later date yeah this is the spray just to have the number at the back of your throat okay alright it doesn't taste very nice okay but it does work okay is it not to me that's somebody on block it's not something on block no in your normal life no not even that it's some banana essence I think we're gonna wait till you have the sedation jar for a bottle of wine yeah can I ask you to open your mouth off the line okay and swallow for a little bit it's gonna make you feel a bit warm at the back of your throat you'll make you feel that you can't swallow but you are swallowing okay swallow for bit okay yeah yeah okay alright we're get everything together you can see screen okay alright I'm gonna pop some monitoring on you can you me you me so in a moment we will get you in position okay I'll get you to lie on your left side okay so this is gonna just pop on there just to make sure you incorporate any saturations okay okay and I'm gonna do a sat down for tomorrow okay and I'll just level the head the bed down darling just lower the bed mhmm I'll try and get you to roll over then to face me a bit mark okay okay I'm I'm definitely 1 ear definitely 1 year okay so I'll that so what I'll do oh am I right yeah just a pulse yeah you are swollen now if you when you put your hands on your on your you know you're trying to yeah just need to yeah worries but it just sometimes it'll alert people that they can't you know but they're not but I promise you you are breathing and you aren't swallowing okay alright so if can get you to touch very much you need to be part of your massage you see so you can't pull the test we just change this color around so I
